Japan’s new bullet train is not only faster and smoother but it can also take passengers safely to the location at the time of an earthquake.
The N700S started operating on July 1. However, the ‘S’ stands for ‘Supreme’. The train will serve the Tokaido Shinkansen line, which links Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka Station in Osaka.
World’s Fastest Train
However, the bullet train set a new record during a test run in 2019. It was one of the fastest trains in the world. As it an run up to 360 kilometers per hour. However, the operating speed will be capped at 285 kilometers per hour.
It’s the first new bullet train model to be added to the Tokaido Shinkansen line by the Central Japan Railway (JR Central) in 13 years. However, it was to be originally launched with the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Whereas, it is postponed now to 2021.
However, the Tokaido Shinkansen line had its inauguration in 1964 at the time for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Moreover, it connects Tokyo and Osaka and it was the world’s first high-speed railway line.
The appearance of the N700S is similar to the older N700 or N700A models. However, it has an elegant golden logo.

From the inside, the seats of the passengers can recline further. They are more comfortable, especially for long-haul riders. However, an individual power outlet is provided on each seat.

Moreover, the train also has a lithium-ion battery self-propulsion system, this system is one of the most unique features of this train. This system is the first of its kind in the whole world. It allows the train to run for a limited distance on its own during a power outage. The train can move with the though a high-risk area, on a bridge or in a tunnel, and even during an earthquake.
